Cosmic Energy / gable end mural. Redland, Bristol
The homeowners (Ruth & John) asked for a mural design that could sit on their existing blue paintwork and which leaned more towards the abstract than the literal. Theirs is the only gable end facing a Bristol green space and it’s central, overlooking position in the landscape called for a design that complimented it’s surroundings and echoed the symmetry of the chimneys.
I suggested that I could take direct inspiration from Ruth’s own artwork - I’ve been a fan for many years - and we landed on her series of artworks evoking movement and energy. Lifting ideas and shapes from this series I constructed a design that could suggest a ball of cosmic energy, a sun-burst of power or a whirl-pool of kinetic movement. It was a joy to work with material outside of my own style and bring together a mural design that felt both dynamic and positive, while remaining open to interpretation.
