Motivational primary school mural. Greenfield E-Act Academy, Bristol

Commissioned and funded by Artists in Residence - a charity bringing high-quality artist residencies to schools across the UK - I was asked to paint a mural providing a bright, cheerful and motivational welcome that connects to and backs up the school’s ethos and values. The mural is located on the school grounds alongside the main entrances to the building.

I worked with Bristol-based duo 'Let's Make Art' who ran a series of workshops in Greenfield E-Act Academy where they worked with a small group of young carers and discussed what the school meant to them, focusing on the values and their surroundings. An allotment adjacent to the playing field and a small wood provided many animals, including; guinea pigs, rabbits, squirrels and bees. My illustrative mural artwork played homage to this workshop material and features the owl in the school's logo, as well as the various animals found in and around the school. Tying it all together are phrases the children wrote down, directly connected to the school’s key values.

I have had the pleasure of working with Dave on more than one occasion. We initially commissioned Dave to work on a mural for a school in Bristol. We were so pleased with the results that we used him again on a similar project.

Dave developed the designs following workshops with students and even got the students involved in some of the painting. Dave’s murals have been celebrated by the students, families and staff of the schools. I would have no hesitation in recommending Dave for any future commissions.
