Celebrating Falmouth. Jacobs Ladder steps, Falmouth

I was commissioned to design and paint a 20m long mural up the legendary flight of steps known as Jacobs Ladder, in Falmouth. The artwork is a celebration of Falmouth's community over the year from its maritime history to current day pastimes. The mural also includes characters representing the vibrant creative culture of the area, furthered by the wealth of talent nurtured by Falmouth University, where I was fortunate enough to study many years previously.

It was a brilliant challenge designing an artwork that you encounter as you move along it, as opposed to a mural where you can stand back and view it as a whole. Now, residents and visitors to Falmouth can journey up or down the Jacobs Ladder steps alongside playful characters interacting and flowing from one narrative to another.

I was assisted by local illustrator and muralist Holly Astle throughout the week of painting. Additionally, I was supported by a wonderful group of students from the university who put in a generous number of hours battling with the highly textured wall surface.

The mural was funded & supported by Falmouth BID and Falmouth University.
