Magazine cover illustration and internal spot illustrations.

Once Upon A Town invited me to illustrate the Autumnal cover of their ‘Epsom & Ewell’ magazine. The brief extended to provide the client with a set of spot illustrations lifted from the cover, which could be used internally.

The brief related to the lead ‘health & well-being’ article penned by motivational author Jonathan Acott. He writes sage advice for life and my job was to bring a positive take on each of his key points.

The spot illustrations depict a character:

  • breaking a chain with a hammer (freeing yourself of life’s worries)

  • viewing through a powerful telescope (anticipating big changes)

  • happily dive bombing (feeling scared to take a leap)

  • about to climb down from social media loaded scales (imposter syndrome)

  • proudly flying a flag (daring to be different)

  • giving the thumbs up while casually throwing away rubbish (trouble letting go)
